If either fault is recorded again on the next engine startup, Honda P0128 code is triggered.Īlthough Code P0128 is not one of the Top 5 most common codes for any of the Honda models we have data on it is a common code for a lot of cars across all makes. The PCM will record if either of these two criteria is not met. Additionally, once the 160º F threshold is achieved, the recorded engine temperature must not fall below 160º F during operation. Most ECMs mandate that the engine coolant temperature sensor record temperatures above 160º F within 15 minutes of the engine starting. When the correct engine operating temperature is reached, the powertrain control module orders the fuel system to enter a “closed-loop” where readings from the oxygen sensors are used to maintain the efficient air to fuel ratio of 14.7:1. The engine control module (ECM) tracks how long it takes for the engine of a vehicle to reach and maintain the correct operating temperature. This DTC can be triggered by a missing or stuck open thermostat, a faulty coolant temp sensor, or damaged wiring to the coolant temp sensor circuit.

Diagnosis: It is important to complete the entire diagnostic process when diagnosing the Honda P0128 code.Repair Urgency: Get this code fixed withing the next month to prevent the potential for overheating.

Issue Severity: LOW– Continued driving for a short period of time is okay.

I notice in my Si (I'm up in the humid midwest, MN specifically) that on hot days, like 80+F outside, my temp will go up to 198, fans come on, cools down to 180-185, then good for 10 mins or so repeat.įor the fan settings, I've found full blast at all times is obviously best on the track, but stock setting is best for DD. How many miles on ya whip? T-stat could be getting tired. It seems like your t-stat may be partially sticking based on the temps you see. The stock t-stat is SUPPOSED to be fully open 195F. So I think that the temp sensor in the head gets heat soaked, reading higher than what the overall SYSTEM temp is. When I've bled my cooling system when I've done repairs, my FP will say the engine is like 210-220, but w/ an IR heat gun, the head is like 180-190. I've also noticed that the sensor in the head reads high sometimes. I used to have my fans set to kick on anything above 160F, but by the time the display reads 162-165, then the fans come on, so there is a delay in cooling fan operation per se it will climb for a second when the fans come on, and then start dropping.Ģ. If the temp gets below 189 the cycle is reset. The t-stat then closes and the temp rises with the fans on up past 203. Then, and what appears to be randomly, the temp rises to 203, fans kick on and thermostat opens, and cools to 190-194. This goes on for a couple cycles when either driving or at Idle (this is how it's supposed to work). Cools to 189 degrees then the fans and thermostat close.
